Usual presentation of an unusual pathogen – Cryptococcus laurentii meningitis: a case report

Infections caused by non-neoformans Cryptococcus spp., including laurentii, previously thought to be saprophyte and non-pathogenic, have become more common during the past few years, particularly in immunocompromised hosts. To best of our knowledge here, we present first case meningitis an patient due a fungus that has never been reported Pakistan. Our patient, 40-year old male, who had acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) was diagnosed as laurentti meningitis, with rare neurological manifestation i.e., cryptococcomas lepto-meningitis. We presume exposure pigeon droppings were risk factors for this report. He treated liposomal Amphotericin (LAMB) fluconazole but unfortunately, he rapidly deteriorated ultimately succumbed infection. This underscores significance prompt diagnosis vigorous treatment laurentii well need continued surveillance individuals.
